Activity 1 - What is learning?

The most powerful lesson I learnt during this activity:
As teachers, it is easy to be so filled with self-importance and belief in our own abilities to teach, that we underestimate the potential of our children – their potential to learn. Another profound lesson I learnt is that children are curious, eager to discover new things and possess an innate ability to learn.
 Thoughts from self-activities:
I particularly liked the way the questions are formulated. It gives the readers a chance to reflect on what we have read. This is helps us to express ourselves in ways to which we can relate. In this way it will aid our understanding of the information that was read.

Additional comments:
I also liked how the author endeavoured to show the relationship between the teacher and the student by looking at teaching methodologies and the way children learn. Food for thought … if we had to rate the qualities that impact on the process of learning … would we change the order in which it was dealt with?

More about me!

I am a Senior Education Officer at the Ministry of Education, with responsibility for Early Childhood Education. In addition to my secular duties of monitoring programmes and inspecting preschools and early childhood centres, I am currently teaching an Associate Degree programme at the Division of Teacher Education. It’s an all-girls class with the majority of students being between 19 – 35 years. While some of them are experienced in childcare services, there are quite a few who are simply in-limbo as they decide what it is they really want to do.
I love children and I love teaching. Put that mix together and you have a person who is really interested in producing textbooks and story books for early learners using modern technology. During this course, I hope to learn ways in which I can use the technology in early childhood settings, apart from the usual websites that are available; if possible I would like to create a website for early childhood operators, teachers and children and start producing newsletters and magazines using technology, of course.
I have a computer at home which Window 7as well as a laptop which is Vista. Sometimes they work quite well but at other times they behave badly.

All about Moi!

My name is Gwenette Cambridge and I'm excited yet scared about this new initiative called ICT. I know that it will revolutionize teaching and learning but I am a bit scared because I feel inadequate, you know not as computer savvy as I would like to be. Anyway, challenges can be overcome .... I may plod but I'll stick to it. ... Oh by the way, I like to be called Gwen and as this picture suggests my ICT family will have to assist me along.
